Rock a maxi dress and denim jacket if you are not ready to give up the summer staple just yet. These tips to help you pull off this everyday look effortlessly.

Maxi dress with a denim jacket; this is the peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper and mac and cheese of the fashion world. It’s the perfect duo that can never go wrong. And the best part is- you probably have this combo in your closet already.

If you are looking for inspiration to rock a maxi dress with a denim jacket, I have some cool ideas for you. You can do a maxi dress with denim jacket and sneakers, heels, or even boots and then accessorize to perfection.

But first…

What is Denim?

Many people are surprised to learn that denim and jeans are two different things. In reality, denim is a woven twill fabric made of cotton but can also have polyester or spandex to make it stretchy.

The fabric consists of two yarns woven together (weft and warp). The warp yarns are dyed indigo before they are woven into denim, which is why the fabric is blue on the outside and white on the inside. But with today’s technology, you can have denim in any color.

Jeans, on the other hand, are pants or trousers made of denim fabric. So while we understand what one means by saying jean jacket, the reference is completely wrong.

7 Ways to Wear a Maxi Dress with Denim Jacket

1. Maxi dress with denim jacket and sneakers

If I could choose just one casual look, it would be a maxi dress with denim jacket and sneakers. A plain or floral dress with sneakers outfit is simple, fun, and makes you look a few years younger. But you can’t just rock this with any maxi. It has to be a straight or near straight dress and a waist-length denim jacket.

I like to do this with straight maxis that have a slit on the front or the side and then wear a cute cross-body bag and minimal jewelry. If you are young at heart, wear a decorated denim jacket or colorful sneakers instead of the usual white and blue.

2. Black maxi dress with denim jacket

I am willing to bet you have a black maxi in your closet because it’s the most versatile piece of clothing a woman can own. If the dress is straight, one of the best ways to rock it is with white sneakers and a white or blue denim jacket. Finish this off with some dainty jewelry or a scarf around your neck, and you are good to go.

If the dress is not straight and body-hugging, however, I find sandals or open heels work better, depending on the length of the dress and of course the occasion. Let your gold jewelry and well-pedicured toes do the talking, and finish the look with a tote bag on your hand or a clutch.

3. White maxi dress with denim jacket

They say the opposite of black is white, so that is where we will go next. Nothing says summer vibes better than a white maxi dress, and you can tone it down a bit with a classic denim jacket. While blue is the obvious choice, I have seen a girl rock a pink and a yellow jacket, and they looked amazing.

This is not the outfit you want to wear with a crossbody bag and sneakers, though. It’s classier than that, so think about cute embellished wedges, open heels, or brown/metallic sandals instead, and a good feminine handbag. Feel free to also go crazy with gold jewelry like rings, watch, bracelets and necklace.

It also goes really well with a summer hat and sunglasses.

4.  Floral maxi dress, denim jacket and statement hat

This look right here gives the maxi dress with denim jacket and sneakers a run for its money. If you have a cute floral maxi, give it a laid-back, urban vibe by pairing it with booties and sunglasses. Look at the colors of the dress and decide whether you should choose a black or blue denim jacket.

To push the edge and add some structure, don a black statement belt, a cross-body bag and fold the arms of your jacket slightly. A black wool fedora will also come in handy if it’s hot outside, or a large statement hat.

These two looks require minimal to no jewelry, but you can still keep your basics.

5. Dress up with a semi-formal maxi dress and denim jacket

Maxi dresses are categorized into two, casual and formal (gowns). But there is a middle ground, and nothing helps to strike that balance like a denim jacket. A semi-formal maxi like this white and blue pleated dress is a great piece to wear to a wedding or an outdoor event.

Dress it up a little by wearing a denim jacket on top and accentuate the waist with a slim belt. Of course, your handbag, jewelry, and shoes must also be on point, so don’t be afraid to go all out. Heels would be the best for an event, but you can do open wedges if heels aren’t your cup of tea.

6.  White floral dress and denim jacket

We have talked about the edgy look with a floral maxi dress but not the sunny, feminine look. The white floral is flowy, sunny, and extremely girlish. You can rock it to a casual lunch and also to an event. Dress it up with a light-colored denim jacket with arms folded up slightly, a light cross-body bag, and some brown platform sandals.

You can also rock a pair of statement sunglasses and keep your jewelry light and golden.

7. Go bohemian with a flowy dress and denim jacket

And of course, we can’t talk about maxi dress and denim jacket combo without mentioning the bohemian look. All you need is a long, flowy bohemian dress, a cropped, washed-out denim jacket, and wedges. The outfit does most of the work, but no bohemia look is complete without lots of creative jewelry on your hands and neck. A creative handbag also goes a long way toward accentuating this free-spirited look.

Can I wear a denim jacket with a dress?

Absolutely. Denim jacket and dress is the best fashion combo, and it never runs out of style. The secret is to find out what kind of shoes and accessories go with a certain dress style and then work out how to wear the jacket.

Can a denim jacket go with a black dress?

A denim jacket goes well with any color or print because it’s neutral. Black is not an exception. In fact, one of the best ways to brighten up a black maxi dress is to wear a blue denim jacket and white sneakers.
